Today, I bring you a new photo report from the
cultural scene in Prague.
Last Monday there was a Navalis – baroque water
festival in Prague, celebrating the most known Czech Saint and Prague citizen
Saint John of Nepomuk, a protector of bridges and all people having something
to do with water. Each year on this day gondoliers from Venecia come to Prague,
as St. John of Nepomuk is also a protector of all
gondoliers and one of eight patrons of Venice.
The
celebrations are partially spiritual, celebrated by procession and a mass on
the night before the tragic death of Jan Nepomucký and partially cultural culminating
with baroque concert and fireworks on the stage directly on the water. The aim
is to remind the legend and to bring together people who practice religion with
atheistic majority.
Main point of celebrations is picturesque Charles
bridge and its nearest surroundings as a place where the body of martyred John
of Nepomuk was thrown to Vltava river.

Minulé pondělí se v Praze
konal Navalis – barokní vodní festival, oslavující nejznámějšího českého světce
a Pražana, svatého Jana Nepomuckého, ochránce mostů a všech lidí od vody. Každý
rok na tyto slavnosti přijíždí i benátští gondoliéři, protože sv. Jan Nepomucký
je jejich patronem a jedním z osmi ochránců Benátek.
Oslavy jsou částečně
duchovní, oslavované procesím a mší celebrovanou v předvečer tragické smrti
Jana Nepomuckého, a částečně kulturní, vrcholící barokním koncertem a
ohňostrojem přímo na vodní hladině. Cílem je připomenout legendu a svést
dohromady lidi praktikující náboženství a většinovou ateistickou veřejnost.
Hlavním místem oslav
je malebný Karlův most a jeho nejbližší okolí, jako místo, na kterém bylo tělo umučeného
Jana Nepomuckého shozeno do Vltavy.
After the procession passed the Charles bridge,
and while the mass was celebrated, there was a short regatta race and swimming
of the hard men in Vltava river with 5 stars that are one of the symbols of
John of Nepomuk. Last Monday was the coldest day of the week. I was freezing on
the bridge and cannot imagine ever going to the water.
Poté co procesí prošlo
přes Karlův most, a zatímco probíhala mše, se konal malý závod regat a plavání
otužilců ve Vltavě s pěti hvězdami – symboly Jana Nepomuckého. Minulé pondělí
byl nejchladnější den týdne a mě byla na mostě opravdu zima. Neumím si
představit, že bych šla do vody.
For the third time there was a very special
parachute jump as a part of celebrations. Experienced skydiver, Mark Rahbani, demonstrated
so called swooping, when he flown at a speed of about 100 km per hour
underneath the bridge arch operating high speed parachute and landed in the
water. The remaining 4 skydivers demonstrated precision landing on the little
pontoon in the water.
Již potřetí se také konal
speciální seskok parašutistů. Zkušený parašutista Mark Rahbani již potřetí
předvedl tzv. Swooping, kdy zhruba 100 km rychlostí podletí pod mostním
obloukem na speciálním vysokorychlostním padáku a přistane do vody. Ostatní 4
parašutisté skákali na cíl a přistávali na malém pontonu na Vltavě.
After dark, the river has belonged to the world
premiere of concert The Mystery of John of Nepomuk by Kryštof Marek and the
music was beautifully carried by the water.
And finally, the promised baroque fireworks.
Po setmění již
patřila řeka světové premiéře koncertu Mystérium Jana Nepomuckého od Kryštofa
Marka, který se krásně nesl po vodní hladině.
A nakonec nemohl
chybět ani slibovaný barokní ohňostroj.
