Cold Saturday morning, some fog, sun peeping through
the clouds and wild horses.
Chladné sobotní ráno, trocha mlhy, sluníčko
nesměle vykukující z mraků a divocí koně.
First, they were quite far away, just standing there
and grazing grass. But as I stood there for some time, they came nearer and
even later they were directly by the fence, as it is well known that the grass
on the other side of fence is always much better. Only the mummy with her foal
was hiding all the time.
Napřed byli docela daleko, jenom tak
postávali a pásli se. Ale po čase přišli blíž a po dalším čase až
k ohradě, protože jak je známo, tráva na druhé straně plotu je vždycky
mnohem lepší. Jenom mamina s hříbátkem zůstala celou dobu schovaná.
In the village Milovice near Prague there
was recently established private natural reserve inhabited by wild horses and
aurochs. This year also some bison should be added.
U obce Milovice nedaleko Prahy vznikla nedávno
nestátní rezervace obývaná divokými koňmi a pratury. V letošním roce k nim
mají přibýt i zubři.
Project of a non-profit organisation Czech
landscape should return a former military area near Milovice its natural
balance. After the departure of Soviet troops in the early 90s of last century,
the open land here began to quickly overgrow with aggressive woods and plants, so
the main task of a herd of wild horses is grazing on the grasslands and rare
remnants of rich meadows. That should stop the retreat of open and semi-open
landscape necessary for many vanishing species of butterflies, birds, reptiles
and other vulnerable small vertebrates, but also for the countless herbs.

má bývalému vojenskému prostoru v okolí Milovic vrátit jeho přirozenou
rovnováhu. Otevřená krajina tady po odchodu sovětských vojsk v 90. letech
minulého století začala rychle zarůstat agresivními dřevinami i bylinami a tak
hlavním úkolem stáda divokých koní bude spásání vzácných stepí a zbytků
bohatých luk, což by mělo zastavit ústup otevřené a polootevřené krajiny, která
je nezbytná pro mnohé mizející druhy motýlů, ptáků, plazů a dalších ohrožených
drobných obratlovců, ale také pro nespočet bylin.
Wild horses were the native species in
Central and Western Europe, including the Czech Republic for centuries in the
past, but unfortunately were extinct. No other breed in this area did live in
the wild for years essentially free of human influence and without crossing
with other breeds. These horses were never used to pull a cart or for riding,
their only task was to graze rough vegetation to maintain local pastures.
European wildly living horses have managed to survive in the only place - a
harsh mountain environment of Exmoor in the UK, on a plateau with many moorland
and heathland. And these horses were selected after careful genetic and
archaeological analysis to live in Milovice reservation.
Divocí koně patřili v minulosti po dlouhá staletí
ve střední a západní Evropě, tedy i v České republice, k původním
druhům, které však byly bohužel vyhubeny. Žádné jiné plemeno v této oblasti
nežilo poslední tisíc let ve volné přírodě v podstatě bez vlivu člověka a bez
křížení s jinými plemeny. Tito koně také nikdy nebyli používáni k tahu ani k
jízdě, jejich jediným úkolem bylo spásáním hrubé vegetace udržovat místní
pastviny. Evropským divoce žijícím koním se podařilo přežít v drsném
horském prostředí Exmooru ve Velké Británii, na náhorní planině s mnoha
mokřinami a vřesovišti. A právě tito koně byli po pečlivé genetické a
archeologické analýze vybrání k zabydlení Milovické rezervace.
Currently there are living a stallion and
14 mares on the area of about 40 hectares. In November the first foal was born.
Na prostoru cca 40 hektarů žije v současnosti 1 hřebec a stádo 14 klisen. V listopadu přibylo první hříbátko.
